This tool will translate the Japanese text of a select group of Anime
games - while you are playing the game - and display the text in English.
Version 1.17 -- 2 Oct 2008
This tool will attempt to translate the Japanese text directly inside the
game as it is played. It is however still being tested with a wide range
games to make sure it works with as many game engines as possible.
You can create your own profile for a game and attempt to capture
the Japanese text from any game.
Prerequisite
------------
* Windows XP SP2 or better (32-bit)
* 3 Mb disk space
* Windows user account as Administrator
To actually translate from Japanese to English you must have one of
the following products installed:
* Fujitsu's ATLAS
* TRANSYS
* L&H Power Translator
Or alternatively use Google Translation or Yahoo Bablefish over
the Internet. Google can translate to languages other than
English.
Please read the ReadMe.txt file for more information.

How it works
------------
The OAGT tool detects when the Anime game is running. It then intercepts
the process on the computer and modifies certain parts of the program to
capture the Japanese text. The OAGT tool then calls a translation tool
and displays/replaces the English translation in the actual game.
The OAGT tool is able to interface with several machine translation
products to do the language translation.
You can download a 30-day trial of the ATLAS software from the internet link
at the bottom of this document.
If you plan on using the TRANSYS product, you'll need the Premium edition.
If you have Power Translator v11 w. Japanese support that is fine too.
If you wish to use neither the ATLAS nor TRANSYS product, you can use the
Google Translation pages or Yahoo Bablefish online pages to
automatically translate the text over the Internet.
The Tool
--------
The tool presents 5 buttons in its user interface. They are:
* Create new profile

* Load an existing profile

* Start the capture

* View currently loaded profile

* Information about the tool

Starting the capture
--------------------
To activate realtime translation of your Anime game, load

or create
a new profile.

Then start the game and advance to a point in the
game where the gameplay actually begins. Press the Start Capture
button in the OAGT tool.
Set the game text speed to as fast as possible for best result.
Profiles
--------
Before you can play a game in English you must create a profile which
tells OAGT how to intercept and translate the game data.
You will need to provide the following information:
* Profile name
The name of the game (in English/Romanji).
* Getchu number (optional)
Allows you to visit the Getchu homepage (www.getchu.com) for
more information about the game.
* Window Caption
The title of the game window. OAGT uses this information to find the
running process on your computer.
Use the ellipsis button (...) to browse for a running window.
* Capture Method
Choose how the text is intercepted inside the game process.
x TextOutA - Collect Chars
Intercepts the drawing of the characters and displays the English
text on top of the graphics.
x ExTextOutA - Collect Chars
Same as TextOutA but for a different Win32 DLL function.
x MultiByteToWideChar - Replace
Captures the text while it is being converted to the UNICODE
charset and replaces it with the English translation result.
x GetTextExtentPoint32W - Kirikiri engine
Games written for the KiriKiri engine should use this.
x WatchPoint - Inspect
Use debugging techniques to capture text while the game is
running. If you have an AGTH code for your game, you can
use the special AGTH Conversion dialog to apply it.
* Translation Method
Choose how text should be translated.
* Text Areas
Define the areas on the screen where the tool will intercept text
and translate it. Filter out unwanted text by matching on a
particular color or font size.
Here you also define how the new English text will be printed.
When you create a new profile, make sure the game is running and is
currently displaying some of the text you wish to translate in the
future. You will need to define the text areas on the screen where the
translation should be intercepted.
Creating a new profile
------------------------
1) Enable the View -> View Log from the menu.

2) Start the game, play a bit.

3) Create a new profile in OAGT. Enter a name, pick a window caption.

4) Create a text area. Pick a rectangle that frames the main game text (usually bottom of the screen). Pick a nice font in the Font at the bottom. Leave everything else as is.

5) Back in the main Profile view, pick the TextOutA metod.

6) Test the profile with a Capture and while playing the game a bit. If you see entries in the log area, like "Translating..." stuff, when you play the game then it's picking up text.

7) Try with ExtTextOutA and DrawTextA if 6) didn't succeed.
8) Modify the text area in the profile with check in "Use Relative Coordinates" if 7) didn't succeed, then repeat 5) to 7)
9) If you see Japanese text captured in the log view, but not on the screen, try the "Print in own layer" check in the text area settings.
10) Finally, if things work and you didn't need the Relative Coordinates or Layer option, make a text area for menus and other stuff.
Translation quality
-------------------
Unfortunately machine translation of languages which are linguistically
so far apart, as English and Japanese is, is not at a stage where you
can expect a fluent translation.
The Yahoo Honyaku seems to provide the best translation at the moment.
